Summer flounder opens this Saturday the 5th, don't forget to register for the Barnegat Fishin' Hole Year-Long Tournament!

We received our first weigh slip this week! Rudy2510 weighed in a 42.75 lb striped bass!

Hey Joe, has this tournament been finalized and when will the prizes be awarded? Also, are you planning on running again for 2013?

Thanks!

Entrants have 30 days to turn in weigh slips. Once we get past the 30 day period from December 31, 2012 we will finalize the tournament and announce and contact the winners. We have not decided yet on the tournament for 2013. With participation dwindling each year we may not continue it.

Hey Chris, I got something in the mail about a week ago saying I won something but I often see Joe so I told him he could give it to me whenever.
I hope they have the tournament again this year. I think they had it set up very well for 2012 but they just have to get the applications out earlier and publicize it a little more.

The tournament ended December 30, 2012. The winners were notified, not all have responded. Prize packages have either gone out or are going out this week or as the winners respond to the notifications and verify their mailing addresses.

For 2013 we are not sure yet and have to think about if we will hold the Year-Long Tournament a little more. Each year participation has declined markedly. Currently the only viable option we see would be to open up the tournament for weigh in at any NJ State Certified Scale due to several reasons. One being the lack of sponsors that have certified scales and two, the amount of area tackle shops and marinas that will not be reopening in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. And we can’t forget even if Sandy didn’t come and pay NJ a visit the economy is forcing many to cut back on their spending.

If we do decide to hold the tournament I believe we will most likely only accept payment by check, hold the checks until a certain date (probably April 1, 2013) before depositing them and determine if there are enough participants to hold the tournament. If not all entry fees will be returned. The last two years we promoted the Tournament at local flea markets, hung posters and handed out over 2,000 flyers each year and still saw more than a 50% drop in participation. This not only takes a tremendous effort but also a good amount of money to promote the tournament that must be deducted from the monies taken in before payouts are made to the winners.

Thank you,
Joe

Joe, if you dont do the year long, how would it be to have another single day tournament? Maybe one for fluke in the summer and a bass tournament in the spring/fall? I think overall it would be a lot less work? Keep it simple with a few weigh in locations to accommodate the n/s BB people or one centrally located weight in station like Lacey Marine.

Congrats to all the winners--great job!!!!. Joe why not put up a poll to see how many members would be interested in a year long tournment and make your decision based on that #.

Maybe a monthly tournament with a few select species for each month? The weather wouldn't be a factor which can hamper fishing on the weekend tournaments...

Id like to see a Tournament from Long Branch to Barnegat.

Maybe have official awards at IBSP.

Maybe we can raise money to have a free kids tournament or something....Or even a crabbing contest. crazy

I like that idea. I think a single bass, fluke, and possibly tuna tourney would yeild more participants and be much more exciting.

Keep us posted. I'm in for a friendly tourney. If we have enough money to throw fuel in the tank, whats a few extra bucks for some friendly competition? I think if a few posts are set up here, we could rally enough people together to get something fun and low maintainance starte, even if the platform changes.
