Found a 5 inch mantis shrimp in the belly of a 19 inch fluke in June north of BI in the open bay. Also have found them over the years in the belly of striped bass. For some interesting writeups on these devilish creatures, do a Google search. quite interesting to say the least. Tite lines!

In nine years i have never bottom fished off my dock this time of the year.I've netted bunker at night and live lined them for Blues or Weakies. I started fishing off the dock at 7 am after my wife left for work with just useing 10 pound test with two split shot for weight and a NO-6 hook, i used Fish Bite worm and Frozen shrimp. I started catching-Spot-Porgies-Small Sheepeshead-a couple of White Perch-Baby Black Drum-a lot of baby fluke that had to go back of course, and now a Mantis shrimp. My Lagoon is a Nursery. The majority of the fish were caught on the shimp. That Manthis shrimp looks like that thing {Arnold Swartsnaker}had that fight with.....

They are a delicacy to Stripers. They live in muddy bottoms and are mainly active at night and low light. They are talked about in the October issue of NJ Angler- pages 51-52.
